My thoughts on “Venture Deals”

What’s a Term Sheet? Simply put, it’s a document that highlights how the matters pertaining to valuation and control are addressed between investors, equity holders and other key stakeholders in a company.

In pragmatic terms, however, there are many nuances associated with crafting a term sheet and that’s what Venture Deals is mostly about.

Some of you might know that in 2021, one of my goals is to read at least one new book every week and this past week, it was Venture Deals’ turn.

So is this a book that’s worth reading? Absolutely. But beware! This is a dense book. For the most part Venture Deals is a reference book that’s written for entrepreneurs.

Its aim is to explain the seemingly complicated VC jargon in simple terms and I would say the authors have done a great job in doing this.

A big part of book talks about different sections of term sheet and all the terms inside it with tons of examples to make sure you have comprehended the analogy and rationale.

Authors at some point decide to deep dive into negotiation tactics and the myth behind how venture capital funds actually work.

This is an important book and a must-read for anyone who wants to learn about venture financing. It’s not a super easy read but hey…no pain, no gain. As would-be entrepreneurs, I think you will find the practical tips by Brad and Jason highly rewarding.
